On April 13th-15th of 2018, Variety the Children’s Charity of Georgia presented their conceptual of the all-inclusive playground that they plan to build at Piedmont Park at the 82nd Atlanta Dogwood Festival. 225,000 attendees visit the annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival each year. Variety wanted to meet people in the community and share information about the future all-inclusive playground, while also sharing their conceptual of the playground. Variety passed out promotional material along with postcards with more information on the playground. Variety hopes to get feedback from the local community on how to make the playground better for the city of Atlanta.
Variety of Georgia is proposing to build an Inclusive All-Abilities Playground at Piedmont Park. It is designed to meet the best practices for inclusive and barrier-free play, while providing a welcoming environment for children with sensory disorders, auditory, visual, and mobility impairments. Children of all abilities can interact with each other and be active, social, and belong. Variety’s designs will strive to make the environments more usable, safer, and healthier for all. The new playground will go beyond ADA accessibility and offer a sensory rich environment for play for children with development disabilities, sensory disorders, cognitive disabilities, mobility issues, as well as, typically developed children.
